The evening will open with American pianist Bobby Mitchell exploring innovative improvisatory approaches to classical composers Robert Schumann, Frederic Chopin and Johannes Brahms.
Dutch contemporary dancer Manou Koreman is joined by film-maker Sebastian Hinds and violinist/i=u curator Eugene Feygelson in creating an interactive media work commenting on modern ‘selfie’ culture, using audience smartphones to be part of the experience.
Recent Concert Artist Guild prize winners PUBLIQuartet and innovative Hip Hop poetry trio The Mighty Third Rail explore the links between hip hop and classical music, re-imagining the creation myth through re-composition of Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 1 "Metamorphoses Nocturnes."
Experimental-rock group El Tryptophan bridges the gap between the modern experimental rock and classical avant-garde aesthetics, mixing improvised and pre-composed elements in their song forms.
The evening will close with a remix of the night’s sounds by resident DJ James Greer (Nonclassical), a live and unique experience to see how the music you heard on the night can be reinvented and recombined as electronic music.
